                                    Why Bees store honey.
Bees produce honey as food stores for the hive during the long months of winter
when flowers are not blooming Appreicate your spoonful of honey. The average bee makes only half a teaspoon of honey in her
lifeime.  In one trip a bee will visit between 50 and 100  flowers. The bees from one hive can visit 225,000 in
                                    one day.

Did you know it takes 8.8kgs (4lbs) of nectar to produce 2.2kg. (1lb) of honey. It takes  3.6 kg (8lbs) of honey
for a bee to  produce  1.1 kgs (1 lbs) of beeswax.
When a honey bee builds comb, the comb is 0.0508 mll (0.002
                                    inch)
How thin is that?

                                    2 Milion blossoms
To gather this amount of nectar, bees have to visit 2 million bloossoms.  To visit 2,000,000 blossomes, the bees
have to fly 88,513 kms (55,000 miles). They fly at 15 kph (9.3 mph)  Their wings beat 11,400 times per minute. In the
                                    summer the
worker bee flies 804 kms (500 miles)
The average yield per hive in Canada is 60 kg (134lbs.)

                                    Editor's note:
Already I am amazed at the activity of the bee and wonder how do you come up with
                                    these numbers.

                                    Too smart to be female.
Until the 1870's the queen bees were called kings.  People  could
not accept that anything so well organized could be run   by females.  Ladies we have come a long way.

A queen bee is fed on royal jelly and the workers can labour themselves to death.  The hive will grow to around
60,000 before it swarms and splitsto form a new hive.

                                    The Colony.
Honey bees are social insects.  The queen is the only sexually developed female
in the hive.  She is the largest bee in the colony.  A two day old larva is selected by the workers to be
reared as queen.  She will emerge from her cell 11 days later to mate in flight with approximately 13 drones.  During
the mating she receives several million sperm cells, which last her entire life span of two years or more.  She starts
to lay eggs about 10  days after mating and a productive queen can lay 3,000 eggs in a single day.

                                    Harmless and Helpless Males.
Drones are male bees that have no stingers.  They do not collect
food or pollen from flowers.  Their sole purpose is to mate with the queen in flight and this ends their life. If the
colony is short of food, drones are often kicked out of the hive.

                                    The Workers.
Workers, the smallest bees in the colony, are sexually under - developed females.
The life span of a worker bee varies according to the time of year.  Life expectancy is approximately 28 - 35 days. However,
workers that are reared in September and  October, can live through the winter.

Workers feed the queen & larvae, guard the hive entrance & help to keep the hive cool by fanning their wings.
Worker bees also collect nectar to make honey.  The body of a queen bee produces a  chemical substance.  This
chemical is licked from her body by the attending  workers and passed to other workers by mouth to mouth  contact.
This queen substance has physiological effect on the
worker bees and stops the development of their ovaries, keeping them
                                    sterile.

Products of the bee hive include honey, pollen, propolis, wax, royal jellly and bee venom.  Some products have medicinal
values and are used as treatment in naturopathic medicine.
Bees and Bee Keepers work hard to produce honey.  Think of them next time you enjoy it on your toast or use
it in baking or to sweeten a drink. It really is underpriced and undervalued.

to make a few extra bucks for about one year to supplement my retirement income using affiliate programs on the internet.
So far I am spending more than I am getting.
I reside in Dayton, Nevada and for enjoyment I like to go fishing  and
gold prospecting.  I have found that my two hobbies are a lot like trying to make a go of it on the internet.  You
are always looking and waiting for the big one to strike. I think the key is to stick with it and eventually the big one will
                                    hit.
Speaking of big ones I think this is it.

I`m Anna-Marie, affectionately known as "Anna" by friends and contacts online. I live in Wales in the UK, been here for
5 years after living in Norway for 18 years. (moved there when I was 13, so you can probably work out my age now if u wanna...lol)
I have 4 fantastic kids, and a weird dog that can`t decide  if she`s a baby or a cat, but she KNOWS she`s not a dog,
We also recently got ourselves a new addition to the family
Fluffy The Rottweiler. He`s a total brat, but loveable too.
I love the idea of helping people and in 2002, I decided I wanted to do more. I wanted to help more people, in less time,
as easily as possible, and I soon realised that the best way I could do that, was to publish my own ezine, which I subsequently
                                    launched on
December 18th 2002.

P.S. Adbar Exchange is the latest advertising program I have joined,
it`s very new, with
plenty space to grow. As far as "popup1s" go,
the adbar is extremely unobtrusive, and I think that`s what I
like most
                                    about it :~)
